The easternmost point of the mainland at 43°23'N, 145°49'E in Nemuro City, the cape where you can greet the sunrise earliest in Japan.
At the tip of the cape, Hokkaido's oldest Western-style lighthouse stands white, and in front, the blue ocean of the Pacific Ocean spreads endlessly. On clear days, the Kaigara Island lighthouse, Suisho Island, and Kunashiri Island of the Northern Territories emerge beyond the horizon, and their figures can be seen clearly. Strong winds from the sea blow through, and the scent of the tide drifts heavily. The sound of waves hitting rocks echoes endlessly, and seabird cries reverberate in the sky. Before dawn, the horizon gradually brightens, and the moment when the sun finally appears is a special experience unique to the easternmost point.
The surrounding area is maintained as Boukyou-no-misaki Park, with "Hoppou-kan/Boukyou-no-ie" conveying the history and life of the Northern Territories, and "Four Islands Bridge," a monument embodying prayers for the return of the Northern Territories and peace. From inside the park, you can gaze at the Northern Territory islands while contemplating history and the present. This is a representative cape of Nemuro possessing both the geographical uniqueness of being the easternmost point of the mainland and the temporal value of Japan's earliest sunrise.
