Standing at the edge is Hokkaido’s oldest Western-style lighthouse, first lit in 1872. Its brilliant white structure contrasts with the infinite blue of the Pacific. On clear days, the Kaigara Island Lighthouse and Suisho Island of the Northern Territories appear so close you feel as if you could reach out and touch them.
