Located at the eastern tip of Nemuro City (43°23'N, 145°49'E), Cape Nosappu is known as the first place in Japan to greet the sun. At its edge stands Hokkaido’s oldest Western-style lighthouse, first lit in 1872. Its brilliant white form contrasts with the endless blue of the Pacific. On clear days, the Kaigara Island Lighthouse and Suisho Island appear so close they seem within reach.
