Former Okazaki Family Noh Stage (Otaru Noh Theater)

Traditional Theater and Architecture

Dating back to the 14th century, Noh is an iconic form of Japanese masked theater. Constructed in 1926 by a wealthy merchant, the Otaru Noh Theater was eventually donated to Otaru City in 1954. While visitors can experience the ancient traditions of Noh from early Jun. until late Sep., they can take in the beautiful architecture made from carefully selected pine, cedar, and cypress wood all year round. Go behind the scenes and check out the sumptuous costumes and masks donated by the original owner’s family.
