Experience one of Hokkaido's most spectacular summer sights, where around five million sunflowers bloom across Nayoro each August. Known for temperature differences of more than 60°C between winter and summer, the city offers a uniquely northern Hokkaido landscape.

Nayoro's rich natural environment is shaped by harsh winters and warm summers. From early to mid-August, sunflower fields throughout the city reach their peak, painting the landscape in vibrant yellow. Spanning about 50 hectares, nearly five million sunflowers stretch to the horizon. Beneath clear blue skies, the flowers sway in the breeze, creating a scene that captures the beauty of Hokkaido's summer.

These sunflowers are valued not only for their beauty but also for their contribution to local agriculture. They enrich the soil as green manure and provide the raw material for local specialties. One of the best known is "Kita no Kagayaki" (Northern Radiance), a premium 100% first-pressed sunflower oil made from locally grown seeds. Visitors can purchase the oil and other sunflower products at local shops and enjoy the flavors of the region.
