Located in northern Hokkaido, Nayoro is known for its striking seasonal contrasts, where snowy winters give way to warm summers. Every August, vast sunflower fields burst into bloom, transforming the area into one of Hokkaido’s iconic summer destinations.

The sunflower fields are spread across several locations, covering about 50 hectares in total. Standing among the blossoms, visitors are greeted by an endless horizon of gold swaying gently in the summer breeze—a scene that perfectly captures the scale and beauty of northern Japan.

Beyond their stunning views, these sunflowers are deeply connected to the local community. After blooming, they help enrich farmland soil and serve as the source of Nayoro's famous "Kita no Kagayaki" (Northern Radiance) sunflower oil. Produced without chemical pesticides, the seeds are carefully pressed into a smooth, aromatic oil prized for its quality.
