A 40-50 meter cliff overlooking the Shiretoko Mountains and drift ice

Notoro Cape, which juts out into the Sea of Okhotsk from the eastern side of Lake Notoro, is a prime spot for viewing drift ice, formed by raised cliffs 40-50 meters high.
Standing at the tip of the cape, the blue horizon of the Sea of Okhotsk stretches to the north, while the Shiretoko mountain range extends in the distance to the east. Around the lighthouse, green meadows spread out, and the sight of cows peacefully grazing soothes the heart. The cold sea breeze caresses your cheeks, and the cry of seagulls fills the air—a magnificent landscape typical of Hokkaido. Looking down at the sea from atop the cliffs, you can hear the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, while the scent of the tide tickles your nose.
In winter, from late January to early March, white drift ice comes ashore below, creating a magnificent scene of the sea covered entirely in ice. The sound of drift ice hitting the shore and the creaking of ice break the silence, allowing you to experience the power of nature. The contrast of green meadows, white drift ice, and blue sky creates a special spectacular view unique to this season.
