Hokuryu Sunflower Village (Hokuryu Town)
When people think of sunflowers in Hokkaido, Hokuryu Town is often the first name that comes to mind. Hokuryu Town's "Himawari no Sato" is one of Japan's largest sunflower fields, with about 2 million sunflowers blooming across a vast area equivalent to about five Tokyo Domes. Each year, over 200,000 tourists flock to this field, which adds brilliant color to the brief northern summer.
The field is packed with attractions, including a massive jumbo sunflower maze with a stamp rally, an observation deck offering a panoramic view of the sunflower field, and a "World Sunflower Corner." To explore the extensive grounds, the "Himawari-go" sightseeing tram or rental bicycles are a great and convenient way to get around at a relaxed pace.
Additionally, a must-try treat at the "Himawari Kanko Center" within the park is the aromatic and nutty "sunflower soft-serve ice cream," perfect for a break.
