Located on a hilltop in the Memanbetsu area, this spectacular observation park offers a 360-degree panorama from Lake Abashiri to Mt. Shari and the Shiretoko mountain range.
From the observation deck, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the blue surface of Lake Abashiri below and the magnificent mountain range of Mt. Shari and the Shiretoko Mountains in the distance. From summer to autumn, yellow sunflowers bloom all around the observation deck, and the contrast between the flowers swaying in the wind and the mountain range is vivid. Walking through the sunflower field, the sweet scent of flowers drifts, and the sound of leaves rustling echoes with each breeze. Wrapped in the fresh air of the hilltop, you can experience the nature of Okhotsk.
Near the park is "Auvers Hill," chosen as a filming location for Akira Kurosawa's film "Dreams," and because there are no tall buildings or streetlights nearby, a starry sky spreads overhead at night. The Milky Way is clearly visible to the naked eye, and the sight of countless stars twinkling is magnificent. In the cold night breeze touching your skin, the time spent gazing at stars in space surrounded by silence is a luxurious experience you can never have in the city.
