A botanical garden rare in Hokkaido, cultivating about 300 species and 3,000 tropical plants, famous for Japanese macaques soaking in hot springs.

Entering the greenhouse, you are enveloped in humid air and the green fragrance of plants. Inside, tropical plants with unique names such as "ice cream tree" and "breadfruit tree" grow thickly, allowing you to experience a southern atmosphere while in the north. The greenhouse interior lined with colorful tropical flowers and palms spreading large leaves is warm even in winter, and the contrast between snow falling through the glass and the greenery inside the greenhouse creates a mysterious sight. A foot bath is also set up in the park, where you can spend luxurious time gazing at plants while soaking your feet in hot spring water.

The greatest attraction of this botanical garden is the Japanese macaques soaking in the hot spring at Monkey Mountain. From winter to early spring, the sight of monkeys entering their dedicated hot spring is adorable, and visitors are heartened by their comfortable appearance soaking in the water and figures cuddling with companions at the spring's edge. Play areas such as water plazas and toddler playground equipment are also maintained, making it a relaxing spot where families can enjoy all day.

Yunokawa Hot Spring, one of Hokkaido’s three major onsen resorts, is a historic onsen in Hakodate cherished for its long-standing reputation. Steeped in history, local legend recounts how the therapeutic waters once healed a seriously ill Matsumae Clan feudal lord, cementing its status as a cherished sanctuary.

Conveniently located about 10 minutes by car from Hakodate Airport and near downtown Hakodate, it serves as an ideal base for exploring the city. The hot spring area features numerous ryokan and hotels offering fresh Hokkaido seafood and seasonal delicacies.
