Onuma Quasi-National Park
The only quasi-national park in southern Hokkaido, featuring the active volcano Mt. Komagatake and Lake Onuma formed by its eruption
Natural scenery unfolds with the active volcano Mt. Komagatake and the large and small lakes formed by its eruption, including Lake Onuma, Lake Konuma, and Junsainuma.
In spring, skunk cabbage colors the wetlands, while in summer, water lilies and Nuphar pumilum brighten the lake surface. Rowing a boat slowly across the water, the reflection of Mt. Komagatake on the lake surface and the peaceful space soothe the soul. The pleasant breeze across the water, the sound of oars cutting through, and the refreshing air over the lake fill the senses.
The cycling course around the lakeshore road is also popular. With parking for 260 vehicles, the Onuma International Exchange Plaza provides detailed information about the park. Seasonal events offer diverse ways to experience the varied natural beauty of Hokkaido.
