Icebreaker Garinko
The sound and vibration of the powerful breaking of the ice is a moving experience that you can feel in your body!
With two massive drills mounted on its bow, this icebreaker sightseeing ship powerfully crushes through the drift ice as it advances. Registered as "Drift Ice and the Garinko-go" as a Hokkaido Heritage in 2004, it's a popular winter tradition. The second floor of the Garinko-go III is barrier-free, with a spacious seating arrangement considerate of wheelchair users. If you're lucky, you might spot wild animals such as seals resting on the drift ice, or Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles, which are natural monuments. During the drift ice season, why not set out to see the magnificent scenery that can only be witnessed here?
