Dominating the skyline as the main peak of the Hidaka Range, Mt. Poroshiri is the only mountain in the range to exceed the 2,000-meter mark, standing as its highest summit. Its name comes from an Ainu word meaning "great mountain," and it stands as the highest peak in Hidakasanmyaku-Erimo-Tokachi National Park. The mountain is renowned for its impressive glacial cirques formed during the Ice Age and its rich natural environment. In summer, colorful alpine wildflowers bloom across the slopes, creating spectacular highland scenery where diverse plants and wildlife thrive.
