The Asahikawa Winter Festival, which takes place over the course of one week in Feb., attracts more than one million visitors who flock to see the city wrapped in beautiful colors each year. Prior to the event, snow is collected from around the city and transported to the wide riverbed of the Ishikari River. From there, it is transformed into some of the world’s largest snow statues.
