Daisetsuzan Sounkyo Kurodake Ropeway & Lift

A 7-minute aerial walk to the fifth station of Kurodake in the Daisetsuzan mountain range. Feel the wind and get to the seventh station in 15 minutes by lift.

The ropeway connects the Sounkyo hot spring resort area to the 1984m Kurodake fifth station (1,300m above sea level). In spring, you can enjoy fresh greenery and Chishimazakura cherry blossoms, in summer, alpine plants and encounters with animals, and in autumn, colorful leaves and mountain climbing, all showcasing the natural beauty of Kurodake. Around Kurodake Station, there is a 30-minute walking trail dotted with an observatory (Takamatsudai) offering views of the summit of Kurodake and a museum, where you can enjoy a stroll while admiring the lovely alpine flora. Additionally, if you take the lift up to the seventh station (1,520m), you can enjoy the nature of Kurodake seen below the lift and the even more impressive views from the seventh station compared to the fifth station. If you have time, this is a must-see.

Remarks
Kurodake is a relatively easy mountain to climb. As long as you're properly equipped, even beginners can handle it. From the seventh station's mountain office, it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit. Why not take on the challenge while enjoying the scenery and flowers? After your hike, you can relax at the Sounkyo hot springs at the foot of the mountain.
