Ginsendai

Spectacular red, yellow, and green autumn colors at 1,490 meters

A famous autumn foliage spot located 15 km along the Taisetsu Kanko Road at an elevation of 1,490 meters. As the trailhead for Mt. Akadake, Ginsendai offers vibrant autumn colors from around mid-September each year.

Located beyond Lake Taisetsu in Sounkyo, Kamikawa Town, Ginsendai is one of Hokkaido’s earliest autumn foliage destinations. From mid to late September, the slopes are covered with burning red broadleaf trees, golden-yellow dake birches, and deep green conifers. The vivid contrast of red, yellow, and green creates a breathtaking landscape.

At this high elevation, cool mountain air fills the surroundings, carrying the refreshing scent of conifers. Leaves rustle gently in the wind, and the peaks of the Daisetsuzan Mountains stretch across the distant horizon. The autumn foliage spreads across the gentle slopes like a colorful carpet, glowing even more brilliantly in the morning sunlight.

During the autumn foliage season, private cars are restricted and shuttle buses operate. In summer it attracts climbers, while in autumn many visitors come to enjoy the spectacular fall colors of the Daisetsuzan range.
