Cape Sukoton
A Viewpoint at the Northern Tip of Rebun Island
A scenic coastal landmark in Rebun Town, Hokkaido. Visitors can enjoy views of Todo Island offshore and the Sea of Japan. The cape is also one of the starting points for the Cape Tour Course.
Cape Sukoton is located at the northernmost point of Rebun Island. From the observation point, visitors can look out over Todo Island (Kaiba Island), an uninhabited island located about 1 km offshore, and the surrounding Sea of Japan. The cape is known as “Japan’s Northernmost Cape” because it lies south of Cape Soya, the northernmost point of mainland Hokkaido. On clear days, the distant outline of Sakhalin can also be seen across the sea.
Kaiba Island Lighthouse is located on Todo Island. Cape Sukoton is also one of the starting points for the about 12.4 km Cape Tour Course, which passes Cape Gorota, Cape Sukai, and other scenic locations. Along the route, visitors can walk and trek while taking in the coastal scenery and the island’s natural environment.
