Cape Gorota
Views of Rebun Island’s western coast from an elevated summit
Located along Rebun Island’s Cape Tour Course, Cape Gorota offers views of Gorota Beach and toward Cape Sukoton. Alpine plants can be seen in early summer, while the shore is known for seashells with naturally occurring holes.
Cape Gorota is in northern Rebun Island, and its summit stands 176 meters above sea level. A walking trail from the Awabikotan side leads to the summit. In early summer, alpine plants such as Rebun-so can be seen along the surrounding trails. From near the top, visitors can look out over the western coastline, including the curved shoreline of Gorota Beach and the coast toward Cape Sukoton.
On the Teppu side, the trail descends to a beach covered with rounded stones shaped by wave action. The shore is also a place to look for “ana-aki-gai,” a local term for seashells with naturally occurring holes. Cape Gorota offers two perspectives on Rebun Island’s natural environment: views of the coastline from above and a closer look at the stones and shells along the shore.
