The Serene Beauty of "Maiden's Tears" As one of the celebrated "Eight Views of Shiretoko" within this World Natural Heritage site, Furepe Falls is a true geographical wonder. Unlike most waterfalls, it has no connecting river. Instead, rain and snow that fall on the surrounding mountains seep deep underground, eventually emerging from cracks in a vertical 100-meter-high cliff face. This delicate, trickling flow has long been affectionately called "Otome no Namida" (Maiden's Tears) by locals. Standing at the observatory, you will be immersed in a soundscape of gentle trickling water contrasted with the powerful waves crashing against the rocks below.

The journey to the falls is as enchanting as the destination itself. Along the nature trail leading to the viewpoint, you may encounter families of Ezo sika deer peacefully grazing.
