Shiretoko National Park was formed by natural forces such as volcanic activity and drift ice, and it is home to a diverse range of wildlife. This park is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, recognized for its rich ecosystem supported by the sea, rivers, and forests. Shiretoko is the southernmost seasonal sea ice area in the Northern Hemisphere, and its ecosystem is a remarkable example of the interrelationship between the sea and land. Additionally, Shiretoko is a crucial habitat for many marine and terrestrial species, especially rare ones. These include salmonid fish, marine mammals like sea lions and whales, rare seabirds like the spectacled guillemot, and migratory birds such as the Spectacled guillemot and white-tailed eagle.
