Rebunge Coast in Toyoura Town is a scenic spot located within the Toya-Usu UNESCO Global Geopark. Facing Funka Bay (Uchiura Bay), the coast features giant rocks and rugged cliffs, with Mt. Konbu visible to the north. Its varied coastline is also known by the alternate name “Romantic Coast.”
Overlooking the coast, the Literary Monument Park features monuments inscribed with poems and essays by literary figures who visited Toyoura, including Yosano Tekkan and Akiko, Saito Mokichi, and Ito Sei. These monuments offer insight into the history and culture of the area through works inspired by the local landscape.
Along with exploring the coast, visitors can enjoy Toyoura Town’s specialty strawberries. At the nearby Michi-no-Eki Toyoura (a Japanese roadside station), freshly harvested strawberries are available at the direct-sales shop in spring. It is a spot where visitors can experience a combination of natural scenery, literature, and local food.
