Cape Erimo, designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty, offers a front-row seat to one of the most dynamic landscapes in Japan. Known as the "backbone of Hokkaido," the Hidaka Mountains stretch for about 150 km before finally descending at this very cape, disappearing gracefully into the deep waters of the Pacific.

The view from the edge is truly a masterpiece of natural art. A chain of dark reefs extends about 2 km from the tip of the cape, where powerful white waves crash against the jagged rocks. In this sea area, where the warm Kuroshio and cold Oyashio currents collide, a mystical mist often rolls in, carrying the crisp, salty scent of the ocean breeze.

This area is also famous as one of the windiest regions in Japan, with winds exceeding 10 meters per second for more than 260 days a year. At the Kaze-no-Yakata (Cape Erimo Wind Museum), you can experience the sheer force of a 25 m/s gale in a controlled environment—a sensation that makes it hard to even stand upright. Standing beneath the iconic Cape Erimo Lighthouse, listening to the roar of the wind and the thundering surf, you can truly feel the heartbeat of the planet.
