Discover the unique geology, landscapes, and natural heritage of Mt. Apoi through large-scale topographic models, detailed dioramas, and high-definition videos.
At the entrance, a 3-meter-wide panoramic relief map presents Samani Town, at the southern end of the Hidaka Mountains, often called the “backbone of Hokkaido.” Inside, a 1:14,000-scale 3D topographic model projects Ainu place names and geological maps, helping visitors visualize how the land was formed.
The Earth Science Zone, featuring red as its main color, explains the formation of peridotite, believed to originate in the Earth’s mantle, through panels and dioramas. The Nature, History, and Industry Zone, highlighted in green, features a 4-meter-wide diorama recreating Mt. Apoi’s alpine flora and introducing the region’s natural environment, history, and industries. Visitors can also check real-time trail information and brown bear sightings before exploring the mountain.
The final exhibit is a 60-inch high-definition screen showing seasonal scenery. Through the exhibits and guided explanations, visitors can discover the connection between the land and the people who live here, gaining a deeper appreciation of Mt. Apoi and its natural heritage.
