Located in the Sea of Japan off southwestern Hokkaido, Okushiri Island is a nature-rich destination accessible by ferry from Esashi. Its name comes from an Ainu word meaning “the island beyond,” reflecting a history of more than 8,000 years. Today, the island is known for its dramatic coastline, including the iconic Nabetsuru Rock, a natural arch that symbolizes Okushiri.

Surrounded by the crystal-clear waters known as “Okushiri Blue,” the island offers spectacular scenery and outdoor adventures. With visibility reaching 25 meters, the sea is ideal for activities such as sea kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).
