Wakkanai City Animal Fureai Land
Meet Famous Movie and TV Star Dogs at a Unique Hands-on Animal Facility
Wakkanai City Animal Fureai Land is a petting zoo known as the “Star Dog Village,” supervised by renowned animal trainer Miya Tadaomi.
Many famous animal actors have called this facility home, including Bub from the musical Annie, Jiro from the TV drama Antarctica (2011), and Ururu from the film A Tale of Ululu's Forest. It is also where Taro and Jiro, the canine stars of the 1983 film Antarctica, spent their final years, and their graves can still be found on the grounds.
In addition to these star dogs, a variety of friendly animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, turkeys, and goats, live here, offering visitors opportunities to feed and interact with them firsthand.
The spacious 6,000-square-meter dog run is equipped with play equipment, allowing visitors and their dogs to enjoy plenty of outdoor fun together. With the on-site guest house “Tonakai,” families and their pets can relax and spend quality time together.
Located just a one-minute drive from Wakkanai Airport, this is the perfect destination to enjoy memorable encounters with animals amid the natural surroundings of northern Hokkaido.
