Founded in 1876, Hokkaido University boasts a vast campus of rich nature and historic buildings, making it a popular spot for a leisurely stroll in central Sapporo.

Founded as Sapporo Agricultural College, the Hokkaido University Sapporo campus covers an area about 38 times the size of Tokyo Dome. Start at the "Elm no Mori" Information Center near the main gate to pick up a campus map. Historic buildings include the Second Farm, an Important Cultural Property of Japan, Furukawa Hall, built in 1909, and the Faculty of Agriculture building, built in 1935. The bust of Dr. William S. Clark, the first head of Sapporo Agricultural College, is also a highlight.

Towering elms and poplars bring seasonal color to the campus. In autumn, Ginkgo Avenue turns golden along its approximately 380-meter stretch. The Hokkaido University Museum, housed in the former Faculty of Science building built in 1929, holds more than 3 million academic specimens and offers free admission to exhibitions featuring highlights such as the skeleton of Nipponosaurus.
