Sapporo Beer Museum

Enjoy limited edition beer! Trace the history of Sapporo Beer

Sapporo Beer Museum, located in Sapporo Garden Park, is the only beer museum in Japan opened in 1987. The brick building, designated as a Hokkaido Heritage Site, was built in 1890 as a sugar factory. It was then used as a malting factory until 1965.

In April 2016, the interior was completely renovated. The history of Sapporo Beer, which developed along with the development of Hokkaido, as well as the history of the Japanese beer industry are introduced in an easy-to-understand manner through panels and other displays.

The museum is basically free to visit (free of charge), but we recommend participating in the guided "Premium Tour" (50 minutes). The tour starts with the "Premium Theater," which shows the historical story of the young pioneers who strove to make beer in a powerful 6K video, followed by a tour of the 140-year history of Sapporo Beer, with commentary from the tour guide. At the end of the tour, visitors will be able to compare the limited beers "Reissue Sapporo Beer" and "Black Label," which can only be tasted here! Non-alcoholic beer and soft drinks are also available for those who cannot drink alcohol.

The site is full of picturesque scenery, including valuable buildings that retain the atmosphere of the Meiji era, as well as symbolic chimneys and beer brewing kettles. The scenery changes with the seasons, making it a popular photo spot. At the adjacent Sapporo Beer Garden, visitors can enjoy all-you-can-eat Jingisukan and limited-edition "Sapporo Five Star" beer.
