Snow Brand Megmilk Dairy and Milk History Museum
Discover the world of dairy through Katsugen's "Katsugen Shrine" and factory tours
A history museum established in 1977 where you can learn about the development of Hokkaido's dairy farming and industry, and experience the manufacturing site through factory tours.
Located in Naebo near Sapporo Station, this facility opened in 1977 with the purpose of passing down the history of Hokkaido's dairy farming and industry to future generations. In the exhibition room, precious historical materials showing the transition of dairy farming techniques continuing from the pioneer era and how dairy products have evolved are arranged chronologically. The guided tour combines exhibition viewing and factory tours, allowing you to deeply understand the journey of Hokkaido dairy farming.
At the adjacent Sapporo factory, you can observe the milk production room through glass. Witnessing products flowing through the clean production line one after another, you can experience modern dairy industry technology. In the waiting room, "Katsugen Shrine," a guardian deity for prayer for passing exams and victory, is enshrined, and its name derives from "Katsugen," a lactic acid beverage limited to Hokkaido. Bottles from the early release period are carefully displayed on the altar, creating a space where you can feel the history of products that continue to be loved in the region.
