Daisetsuzan Asahidake Ropeway

The latest blooming cherry blossoms in Japan and other mountain flowers are a sight to behold

The ropeway connects the mountain base station of Asahidake (at an elevation of about 1,100 meters) to Sugatami Station (at an elevation of about 1,600 meters) on Asahidake, the highest peak in Hokkaido at 2,291 meters. You can enjoy the magnificent scenery of Asahidake and other mountains over 2,000 meters high. The area around Sugatami Station is adorned with blooming alpine plants, delighting visitors.

In mid-June each year, the Chishimazakura, known as "the latest blooming cherry blossoms in Japan," bloom in the garden area of the parking lot. Autumn arrives early, and from late August, the mountainsides are covered with a carpet of red foliage, turning yellow by late September.
