Located where forest meets marsh, the Onnenai Visitor Center introduces the formation of Kushiro Marsh and its seasonal highlights through easy-to-understand exhibits. Before setting out, check the Nature Updates Board for information on blooming wetland plants and other seasonal highlights.
An accessible boardwalk extends from the center, forming a 3.1-km loop that takes about 90 minutes to walk. Along the way, you can observe diverse landscapes up close, including sphagnum moss bogs and alder forests, while listening to the calls of red-crowned cranes and other birds. QR codes along the boardwalk provide access to a digital field guide, helping you identify plants as you explore.
Summer brings lush greenery, while autumn turns the wetlands golden. In winter, the landscape becomes a quiet world of snow, with snowshoeing and cross-country skiing offering opportunities to look for Yezo sika deer. Kushiro Marsh offers a different experience in every season.
