Rakurakukan
The Pure Taste of Milk from the Land of the Dancing Cranes
Discover "Natural Cheese Tsurui," crafted from some of Japan’s finest raw milk and enjoyed amid tranquil countryside scenery.
Tsurui Village is known as a sanctuary where red-crowned cranes gracefully descend each winter. Opened in 2007, Rakurakukan is a rare, village-operated cheese workshop that stands as a testament to the village's dedication to quality. As you step inside, you are greeted by the rich, mellow aroma of cheese aging to perfection. Here, artisans produce five distinct varieties of "Natural Cheese Tsurui," including the prestigious "Gold Label," a gold-prize winner in national competitions. Each wheel is carefully hand-shaped by skilled craftsmen who adjust their techniques daily based on the temperature and the subtle characteristics of the fresh milk.
When you take a bite of this freshly made cheese, the gentle sweetness and deep richness of the milk spread across your palate. Enjoy this pure, natural flavor—nurtured by the unique climate of Tsurui—while gazing out the window at peaceful pastures. This is a special taste that can only be found right here at the workshop. Please note that hands-on processing experiences are temporarily suspended starting July 2025. We recommend checking the latest information before your visit and experiencing the unique flavors of Tsurui for yourself.
