Mikuni Pass offers beautiful scenery that changes with each of the four seasons. It's a stunning viewpoint where you can witness the magnificent landscape of Hokkaido. Its name "Mikuni" (meaning "three countries") comes from its former location at the border of the old Ishikari, Tokachi, and Kitami regions. Situated within the vast Daisetsuzan National Park, Mikuni Pass stands at an elevation of 1,139 meters, making it the highest pass on a national highway in Hokkaido.

The area surrounding Mikuni Pass is covered by an expansive sea of trees, with various trees adding color to the entire landscape. The autumn foliage season is particularly beautiful, when the sea of trees is dyed in vibrant hues, creating an exceptional view.

Another highlight is the view of the Matsumi Ohashi Bridge spanning the sea of trees. This beautiful red bridge, with its gentle curve reaching a height of 30 meters and a length of approximately 330 meters, set against the backdrop of the vast natural beauty of the forest, is a grand scene unique to Hokkaido. It never fails to impress visitors.

At the Mikuni Pass Cafe located at the summit, you can enjoy their proud home-roasted hand-drip coffee, soft-serve ice cream, and meals. There's also an observation space and restrooms (closed in winter) where you can overlook the sprawling sea of trees and majestic mountains, making it a perfect spot for a break.
