Since its relocation to Kaguraoka in 1924, Kamikawa Shrine has stood as a peaceful haven, preserving the history of Asahikawa within its quiet, nature-filled grounds.

Located on a small hill just about 5 minutes by taxi from JR Asahikawa Station, this shrine was originally established in 1893 to protect the region's early settlers. As you pass through the torii gate and walk along the approach, you are immediately enveloped by the refreshing scent of ancient trees and the rhythmic crunch of pebbles beneath your feet. The shrine enshrines Amaterasu Omikami as the primary deity, alongside influential figures in Hokkaido’s development, such as Michitoshi Iwamura, allowing visitors to feel the enduring spirit of the pioneers.
