Hokuto Cherry Blossom Corridor
Be the First to Enjoy Hokkaido's Cherry Blossoms! Stunning Nighttime Illuminations Await
Hokuto City, home to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, the new gateway to Hokkaido since the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, is blessed with many famous cherry blossom spots. Every spring, the city hosts the Hokuto Cherry Blossom Corridor, an event where three of the most popular cherry blossom locations are beautifully illuminated, offering visitors an enchanting nighttime experience.
One of the highlights is the magnificent weeping cherry tree at Hokiji Temple, located just a short distance from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station. Estimated to be About 300 years old and standing 12 meters tall, this historic tree is breathtaking in full bloom.
About a 5-minute walk from the temple, you can stroll along a 300-meter stretch of Somei-Yoshino cherry trees that line the Ono River, creating a serene and picturesque riverside promenade.
A 5-minute drive from the Ono River takes you to the Matsumae Domain Hekirichi Fort Remains. Here, an 800-meter-long tunnel of cherry blossoms extends from Hokkaido Route 96 to the fort’s main gate, forming a spectacular floral archway. The illuminated cherry blossoms set against the night sky create a truly magical view.
